Heartbreaking. Trying to refresh my Google Chrome constantly after yet another ultradramatic Liverpool match. The name badge shown on the top of my phone screen, in the search field is “Joel Matip”. This is me in a train wagon going through mountains and meadows with an unsteady internet expressing my empathy with Joel, the only one who I’ve never thought of feeling this close with.
Tonight’s match summed up: awful referee decisions. Luiz Diaz scored the first strike for the match for Liverpool after being incorrectly ruled offsideSon put Spurs ahead before Cody Gakpo equalised on the stroke of half time (and injured himself in the process). Alisson made two superb saves early in the second half, but Spurs created nothing after Liverpool went down to nine men – until the 96th minute, when Joel Matip slammed Pedro Porro’s cross into his own net. This way, Spurs jump above Arsenal and Liverpool into second place after an emotional victory over nine-man Liverpool.
The funny one turned into the tragic one today. Tired legs tired body and tired mind. Joel shouldn’t get any criticism for that. After being highlighted by the Liverpool official YouTube for the best defensive performance last week, he was undoubtedly one of the heros of the Liverpool 18-yard box in today’s nine-man Liverpool until the last gasp own goal leading to this year’s first slip of the previously undefeated Liverpool FC.
To be honest, conceding a goal in this match specially in the last minutes wasn’t at all surprising for me. This is a Liverpool match. You know… you expect. One should always wait for the dramatic moment of change of events. But that OG was another class of drama. hard to tell.
At last, I just wanted to admit this from deep deep of my heart that you, Joel, you were immaculate and immense and deserve all of our support and praise. If there was faults on that match, yours was the tiniest one. Heads up man, you did wonders.
